Soft Breeze

Soft Breeze: reubenvision

Finished this illustration in my sketchbook last night. I find the repeated circles reminiscent of coffee cup stains on my paper.

Autumn Trails

Observations from a recent wander through a forest trail. This is one of my most favourite times of the year.

Givenchy Black Cat Clutch

I just thought I would share the coolness with you. Here is a clutch from the Givenchy fall/winter 2011.
Notice the yellow eyed black cat design.

The Point of Pointillisme

Here is a piece I finished for my color study class. Using only tiny dots of red, blue & yellow paint we were to create value & contrast. My professor stressed that she was most interested in the mixing/overlaying of dots rather then the density. I think it gives a neat effect in the end. Although I am not convinced if the time it took was worth it.

WIP floral friday

Some detail shots of a large illustration I am working on. The entire piece is around 2' x 4'.  I am using larger papers lately & it is pushing my comfort zone. I shall upload a shot of the entire thing when I am finished.

Sweater Season Is Here

source: krisatomic

Cable-knit, cardigan, cozy pullover or any other warm comfortable form; sweater season is here & I am loving it. These are some great sweaters I have been "pinning" to my fashion board on Pinterest .
I am going to try & prolong the "winter jacket" as long as possible this year & my solution is sweaters.

Nothing Gold Can Stay

 photo: reubenvision

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold,
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

busy busy busy

So last week I was "practice practice practice" and today with even more of that & everything else on the go I am just plain busy.
I decided to show some photo love to the the inspiring gal over at Honey Of A Thousand Flowers. In a short time, she has turned a dream into a highly applaudable floral business. Go check out her gorgeous arrangements.

pretty pale peach & dusk grey

A collage I did in my sketchbook last week. It all started when I found the great photo of the damsal in the car. I feel like the grey background & the sketchbook coil add to the piece so I decided to leave them there.
Have a grand weekend all, I am off tomorrow to watch a rugby game in the pouring rain. (the things one does for relatives)

Practice practice practice

Just another practice sketch done from a reference photo. I am trying to get a speed & consistency built into my drawings.

Prada Spring/Summer 2012

A little bit of a fun twist on my usual runway look drawings. Prada's most recent "car culture" inspired show was pretty interesting but not as quick a sell for me, as her usual work is.

The Ailing Bird Who Dropped By

The Gannet

This Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian) I visited my cousins in NS. Some of the boys found a odd feathered friend in the backyard. He was misplaced about a 10 min. drive from the nearest shoreline, but he was for sure a shore bird. He seemed to be either ill or injured because he was making no attempt at flying away as we got closer.

My Uncle & I decided to catch him & drive him down to a sheltered part of the Bay so he would be in his own element where he had more of a chance of surviving.

Northern Gannets are the largest seabird in the North Atlantic, with a wingspan of up to 2 metres. Gannets can dive from a height of 30 m, achieving speeds of 100 km/h as they strike the water, enabling them to catch fish much deeper than most airborne birds.
The gannet's supposed capacity for eating large quantities of fish has led to "gannet" becoming a disapproving description of somebody who eats excessively, similar to "glutton".
I later read that they cannot take off in flight unless they are in water or dive off a cliff; so I am very glad we brought him to the shore. I hope he doing well now.

O Give Thanks Unto The Lord For He Is Good

Some Harvest inspiration for the Thanksgiving weekend.  I used Sunflowers, Coxcomb, Hydrangea, rose-hips, Strawflowers, Sedum, & mixed berries & foliage. The White pumpkin I purchased at a local grocery. I am off to spend the weekend in a very scenic part of the country with my cousins. I am very excited as it is sure to be a delicious & gorgeous weekend.

I am very thankful to live in Canada, a country of peace.
I am thankful for my family.
I am thankful for great friends & support.
I am thankful for this wonderful creation called earth.
Most of all I am thankful for a God who loved me enough to give himself; a ransom for all.

O give thanks.

I was inspired by all of the interesting labels on some old thread spools found at my grampy's house.
I especially like the green one (centre right).
